Macaron and macaroons! What is the difference?
Macarons or Macaroons—Do You Know the Difference?
Have you ever wondered whether those delicate French sandwich cookies are called macarons or macaroons? Their names sound almost identical, but they are two very different confections—and I love creating both!
One quality they usually share is that both are naturally or typically gluten-free because they are generally made without wheat flour. However, ingredients, fillings, decorations, and preparation environments can vary, so anyone with celiac disease or a serious allergy should discuss their dietary requirements with me before ordering.
What Is a Macaron?
A macaron—pronounced mack-ah-RON—is an elegant French sandwich cookie made with almond flour, egg whites, and sugar. It has a smooth, lightly crisp shell, a soft and chewy interior, and a delicious filling such as buttercream, chocolate ganache, caramel, or fruit preserves.
With their beautiful colors and endless possibilities for personalization, macarons are especially lovely for:
Weddings and rehearsal dinners
Bridal and baby showers
Birthdays and anniversaries
Corporate gatherings
Holiday celebrations
Personalized favors and dessert tables
Personalized Macarons with Chocolate Seals
One of my favorite ways to customize macarons is with an elegant, edible chocolate seal. Designed to resemble a traditional wax seal, it can feature the bride’s and groom’s initials, a monogram, or a special pattern selected for the occasion.
Because the personalized seal stamp must be specially ordered with the requested letters or design, these macarons require additional advance notice. The customized chocolate seals are also available at an additional cost. Once the special stamp arrives, I use it to create each decorative seal from chocolate and carefully place it on the macaron.
The result is a small but memorable detail that makes each macaron feel truly personal—perfect for a wedding, rehearsal dinner, bridal shower, or another meaningful celebration.
What Is a Macaroon?
A macaroon—pronounced mack-ah-ROON—is a soft, chewy confection traditionally made with shredded coconut and egg whites. Unlike the smooth, sandwich-style French macaron, a coconut macaroon has a more textured and rustic appearance.
My macaroons are created in a distinctive Persian style, delicately flavored with rosewater and cardamom, with pistachios available as an optional addition. These fragrant Persian flavors transform the familiar coconut macaroon into something especially memorable.
I also create my Persian-style macaroons in charming shapes, including delicate flowers and adorable teddy bears. They can be finished with chocolate and other decorative details to complement the occasion.
Flower-shaped macaroons are a beautiful choice for bridal showers, garden parties, Persian tea gatherings, Mother’s Day celebrations, and elegant dessert displays. Teddy-bear macaroons add a sweet and playful touch to baby showers, children’s celebrations, birthdays, and “We Can Bearly Wait” themes.
Two Different Treats, Each with Its Own Personality
Macarons are refined, colorful, and elegant. My Persian-style coconut macaroons are soft, chewy, fragrant, and charming. Both are typically gluten-free and can be thoughtfully customized for your celebration.
Whether you choose elegant French macarons finished with personalized chocolate seals or whimsical Persian-style macaroons shaped like flowers and teddy bears, each creation can become part of the beauty, personality, and story of your special occasion.
At Artables by Sarvin, desserts are not simply placed on a table—they become part of the experience.
Please contact me early to discuss customized designs. Personalized chocolate seals require additional ordering and preparation time and are priced separately.
